8 Unexpected Homework Tips For High School Students
When you are struggling with homework as a high school student, there are many things you can do to improve upon how quickly and easily you can work. Below you will find 8 unexpected homework tips for high school students:
- 1. The first thing you should do is to have a snack and some water. Many people do not realize that dehydration and hunger are some of the biggest distractions in terms of focus and concentration. It can be very difficult to focus if your mind is lacking in hydration or food. The brain actually consumes 500 calories per day, just to function normally. This means that if you have not eaten recently, or you are not eating healthy foods, then the mind will become foggy.
- 2. Review the assignment details. This is important. You do not want to start working on an assignment only to find midway through that you are reviewing the wrong chapter or that you did not read the questions correctly.
3. Have all of your homework materials with you. If you are going to do calculations or you need a highlighter, have all of that with you before you start, so that you do not have to break your concentration or flow by getting up and finding those materials.
- 4. Create a quiet space in which to study. You need a quiet and relaxed space in which to work. Your kitchen counter while your siblings run around and your mom makes dinner just three feet away is not an ideal place to work.
- 5. Read questions before you read any required readings. If you have to read a chapter in your book and answer questions at the end of the chapter, read the questions first, then read the chapter. Your mind will automatically be on the lookout for the answers to the questions.
- 6. Take a break every hour for some physical exercise. Jump around, run in place, stretch, go for a short walk, or otherwise engage in physical activity. Just ten minutes of physical activity will increase your creativity and focus.
- 7. If you listen to music, try and listen to slower, calm music, without lyrics, rather than fast paced music full of lyrics. The calmer music will slow down your brain and improve focus.
- 8. If you are struggling, ask for help. Do not be embarrassed or you will not progress far.
