If you are anything like me then you will find focusing on anything after school let alone your homework an absolute nightmare. There are so many reasons why you might get distracted or simply feel too exhausted to give it your full attention. The key is in striking the right balance. There can be no denying the fact that your homework has to be done. It is not like you can just skip it and hope that no-one will notice or that there will be no consequences. The real world doesn’t work like that.
Doing things that you don’t like doing is part of life. The number of tasks that you have to do involuntarily will only multiply the older you get – So, you might as well learn to suck it up as best you can. Here is my advice to you:
There really is no point doing your homework when you are shattered, or when you need to be somewhere fast. The trick is time management. It is rare for teachers to assign homework and expect it to be handed in the next day. So, as soon as it has been assigned try and figure the most convenient time to do it. (Not an hour before it has to be handed in!).
Everyone unwinds in different ways. What works for you may not work for your best friend and vice versa. If music is your thing, then great. Listen to it! If you need to take a long, hot soak in the bath then do it. It doesn’t matter what you do, so long as you do your assignments in the right frame of mind.
Don’t try and do several tasks at once. Simply choose one and work through it calmly and logically before moving onto your next task. There is nothing to be gained from taking a scattergun (or scatterbrained!) approach.
It is very easy to get distracted by younger siblings, or the television, or just life. You need to find yourself somewhere quiet, where you can work undisturbed. Even if that means going to the library, or staying behind after school and working there. The important thing is that you get it done, on time. Don’t worry about being “cool”.
